New Republic signalled himself a horse with a bright future with a blazing last-to-first win at Mudgee.

The son of former Group 1-winning Sebring stallion Dissident put the runs on the board early with a convincing win at Taree in late February – his first from only three starts.

Out to 1400m for his Mudgee assignment, regular jockey Mikayla Weir let New Republic find his feet early settling at the rear of the field. Approaching the turn, Weir set the gelding alight and he circled the field so quickly that he had loomed ominously at the 250m, before racing clear for an ever-widening win.

The Mudgee win was New Republic’s second from only five starts and takes his stake earnings to a tick over $44,000.

New Republic was a purchase from the Segenhoe Stud Group draft at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and is a grandson of our former star race mare Vormista. His dam is the Redoute’s Choice mare Apprise who was a winner from only two starts on the track and has produced the Sydney city winner Shaik from only three progeny to make it to the track.
