Stable star Quick Tempo has rocketed home under a perfect ride from Jason Collett to score the biggest win of his fledgling career.
The son of the former stakes-winning son of Encosta de Lago, and now Swettenham Stud stallion Rubick kicked off his career with five successive wins in the country and provincial regions and the team at Minervini Racing were always confident that it was only matter of time before the gelding would break through in the metropolitan area.
Several heartbreakingly unlucky runs were to culminate; none more so than the fresh run at Randwick three weeks prior, where the sprinter missed the start, and was then unable to find a clear passage in the run to the line.
A sensational Tuesday piece of trackwork from Quick Tempo had the team confident that all that was needed was even luck, and the gelding would be in the finish for Saturday’s Kembla Grange assignment. Settling just off the pace, Collett asked Quick Tempo to extend turning for home, and despite several rivals running about in the run to the line, the Minervini stable star was able to charge home and record a sizzling win.
Quick Tempo was a $20,000 purchase by Mark Minervini from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He is out of the Purrealist mare Tawfiq Valley, and is a half-relation to three winners, including metropolitan-winning mare Tawfiq Lass.
Saturday’s win was Quick Tempo’s sixth from only 13 starts and takes his stake earnings to over $200,000.
