It was a day of perfect strike–rates at Gawler yesterday, as the Trackside Racing team scored with their only runner for the day, whilst that runner scored her second win, from as many attempts at the venue.
That runner of course, was Glamorous who steamed home from an unlikely position, to take out the 0-62 Handicap over 1500m.
Having begun her career in slashing style at the venue in March of 2012, Glamorous’ record – whilst appearing a touch inconsistent at first glance, is a lot better than what it appears.
The step to 1500m was right up the mare’s alley, and from the times the gates opened, experienced hoop Jason Holder was able to ease Glamorous to the tail of the field, with the burden of gate twelve quickly overcome, owing to a clever piece of riding that had the mare on the fence after they’d gone a furlong.
As runners found their positions, another clever piece of riding up-front saw Paul Gatt apply the brakes on Meadows Molly, and the situation appeared to be less and less likely for the runners towards the back of the field as the leader got things her own way.
To the turn, and aided by the soft run, Gatt put a gap on them and he kicked his mount clear. Having travelled well for much of the trip, Holder on Glamorous started to get busy and she slowly picked off runners but still had a lot of work to do.
It was the roughie Real Fantasy who claimed the lead with a furlong to go, and this is when Glamorous started to launch, and launch she did, grinding the leader down to claim the prize, by a half-head, right on the line.
With a group of owners on hand to witness the victory, and assuming they played a part in the 8s into 4s, a great day was had by all.
As Glamorous is now into her second preparation, with race experience, added maturity, a pedigree that says so up her sleeve, and the way she has been finishing off her races, you can now expect the mare to enjoy a rise in distance at her next few runs.
Congratulations to the owners Peter & Sue Blaschek, Anthony Brevi, Ian & Cheryl Dally, Joe De Gennaro, Joe Di Pietro, Hank & Cheryl Dirksen, Sam Germinario, Mark & Michelle Minervini, Peter & Lisa Minervini, Cathy Roche – Wells, Paul Shepherd, Allan & Leanne Thomas, Darryl Wells, Greg & Marg Wells, Jason & Kerryann White.
