Mark Minervini's bonny mare Better Be The One continued her remarkable run of success at Gawler today by claiming the Coopers Pale Ale Fillies & Mares 0-75 Handicap over 1500 metres.
Better Be The One has had 3 runs at Gawler for 3 wins, all in the last 2 months including a win in track record time. Her win yesterday continued her astonishing turnaround for new trainer Mark Minervini, who has taken over the reins this preparation. Better Be The One has not finished worse than fourth when saddled up by Minervini. Better Be The One's win is a credit to her trainer as, prior to Wednesday's victory, she had not won beyond 1200 metres.
Settling well back for young apprentice, Jackson Matthews, Better Be The One ($5, second favourite) circled the field and finished with a withering run down the outside to claim the favourite, Vonrob, in the shadows of the post.
The win is Mark Minervini's 13th for the season and was the second leg of a double, with his lightly raced 3 year old Bellunese scoring earlier in the day. Gawler has been a kind track to Minervini in the recent past. Aside from Better Be The One's prowess at the track and Bellunese's maiden victory, Minervini has trained Addiction To Rock, Andamooka Gem and Andronica to victories at Gawler this season.
It will pay to follow Mark Minervini when he next saddles up a runner at Gawler and Better Be The One wherever she steps out next start.
