Lightly raced 6 year old Bianconi gelding, Last Mogul, scored another victory for his trainer Mark Minervini in taking out the second race on the card at Jamestown Cup Day yesterday.
Last Mogul was well-fancied in yesterday's event and thrilled the big Cup Day crowd with an impressive victory over Lucky Breeders and Blue Ruler for young apprentice Omer Ay, who is indentured to leading trainer David Hayes.
Last Mogul's win was his third from 19 starts, and his first for Mark Minervini in just his fourth run for the stable after having joined only a few months ago. Minervini has had Last Mogul primed to run a great race and has just been waiting for the perfect opportunity to place Last Mogul in a winnable event. He has elected to scratch Last Mogul in recent days from engagements at Naracoorte and Balaklava in preference for yesterday's event – a choice that paid dividends for connections of Last Mogul.
Last Mogul's win is Mark Minervini's seventh in the last 6 weeks, and with some in-form horses in work and other nice horses set to resume from a spell over the next few weeks, Minervini's strike rate of a winner a week may well continue.
