Promising youngster Addiction To Rock scored an impressive maiden victory at Gawler today.
The Rock Of Gibraltar 3 year old, having only his third start and taking on older horses for the first time, made light work of the opposition in scoring an impressive 1 3/4 length victory for jockey Damien Robinson. Addiction To Rock caught the eye last start with a fast-finishing 3rd at Morphettville and was very well supported on track, being backed in from $3.40 to $2.40 favourite. His supporters never had the slightest cause for concern as Addiction To Rock jumped well and sat outside the leader before kicking clear at the top of the straight and never being challenged.
Addiction To Rock's performance is a credit to his trainer Mark Minervini, who has brought the youngster along patiently. This patience is now reaping rewards for his many owners, several of which have ventured into horse racing ownership for the first time. "He's a nice horse, this horse," said Minervini after the race. "He's very professional and is a pleasure to train."
On the back of his impressive win, Addiction To Rock is now likely to head to Morphettville Parks on Saturday, 4 September for a 3 year old race over 1400 metres.
