Grey gelding Essoess has broken through for a dominant maiden win, at his ninth career start, at Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club on Saturday afternoon.

The son of the champion sprinter Choisir had been racing well in recent weeks, with dual placings on wet tracks at Taree and again relished the wet conditions on Saturday, looping the field under stable rider Luke Cumberland, before racing clear for an easy win.

The maiden success was a real family affair, as many at Minervini Racing fondly remember the gelding’s dam, the smart sprinter Splash of Moet, who won her first two race starts for the stable by a combined total of nine lengths, back in June of 2012.

Saturday’s win – whilst the first for Essoess was one of five career placings from only nine starts and the gelding should continue to improve when up in trip and in the right conditions.
