Staying mare French Reponse has opened her campaign with a strong win, blousing her rivals at the end of 1400m on our home track on Saturday afternoon.

Courtesy of another top steer from Darryl McLellan, the pair balanced up many lengths from the leaders who set the race up with a good, solid tempo up front. The Dalakhani mare travelled beautifully before the turn, picking up ground before easing to the outside upon straightening and laying out a big challenge. Favourite Zouologist gave a good kick straightening and looked the winner with 200m to run, but French Reponse packed too many guns, charging home and recording a strong win.

French Response was an unraced purchase from our friends at Inglis Digital and in 13 starts, she has won or placed eight times, with a further two fourth placings. Saturday’s win takes her stake money to a tick over $53,000.

Special mention to our team of staff, who turned her out in top order for her first-up run.
