Quick Tempo has returned to form with a slick metropolitan success at Royal Randwick on Melbourne Cup day.

The stable star, who is by Swettenham Stud stallion Rubick has had his fair share of barrier troubles throughout his short career and all eyes were on the gelding as he jumped away from his middle gate; surprising many by bounding away cleanly from the machine. From there, stable rider Jason Collett had Quick Tempo travelling smoothly outside the leader before the pair wore down the leader and favourite Iowna Merc.

Quick Tempo was a $20,000 purchase by Mark and Michelle Minervini from the Newgate Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling sale and the Randwick win was the gelding’s seventh, with stake earnings of over $340,000.

Congratulations to his owners, Kaiser Chan, Kerrie Dailey, John & Kerri-Ann Dennis, Julie Anne Kollmorgan, Michelle Minervini, Mark Minervini, Patrick Moore, Jay Morris, Milt O’Brien, Paul O’Brien, Dean Sullivan, Robbie Waterman, Wungali Racing Syndicate (Mgr: Bob Dailey), From The Track – Tempo Syndicate (Mgr: Allen Hardes).

Mark Minervini has been an unabashed, long-time fan of the former super sprinting son of Encosta de Lago in Rubick, and there are ownership opportunities remaining in a lovely colt, out of the Commands mare Languid, and a gelding, out of the Olympic Glory mare Janneke.
