Mark Minervini has added to his outstanding record with tried horses when Shivarchi (6g General Nediym ex Layered) scored an easy win in the BM64 over 1055m at Balaklava.

Formerly trained by Robert Price at Nowra, Shivarchi was having his first start in South Australia since transferring in mid-October and if today’s win was anything to go by, there looks to be more in store.

Having done all of his racing in the opposite direction, stable jockey Shayne Cahill gave Shivarchi plenty of time to balance up and find his feet, and he found a nice trailing position, second to last, five lengths off the leaders.

The 1050m start at Balaklava, with just the one turn was always going to suit the General Nediym gelding and turning for home he tracked up nicely with plenty to give.

At the 200m, Cahill asked for something and despite having to ride on one rein, Shivarchi powered down the centre of the track and proved too strong, going on to record an easy win.

Relatively lightly-raced for a rising seven-year-old, there looks to be natural improvement in the gelding once he fully adapts to racing in the anti-clockwise direction.

Congratulations to owners Paul Alvaro, Joe Carbone, Kevin Fisher, Nick House, Paul Carey & Jess Giles, Girolimo Vinci, Josef Weber.
