WOW!

Those were the words I muttered to myself, as I witnessed Trackside Racing's Splash Of Moet (2f Dash For Cash – Storm Tossed) cross the line a massive 6.7 lengths clear of her opposition in the 1000m 2YO Handicap at Morphettville today.

Starting at the prohibitive odds of $2.10, on the back of an impressive debut win, the filly was once again given the task of a wide gate for her second assignment, and whilst she was able to fly the gates at her debut and lead the field clearly – on this occasion, a few speedy types drawn on her inside, made sure that she wasn't going to get it all her own way.

For the first furlong, stable jockey Shayne Cahill urged Splash Of Moet along and whilst the filly was finding her feet a group of four in front of her put on their own little "Charge Of The Light Brigade" re-enactment and Cahill was presented with a lovely situation – a gap to slot into, right behind the four tear-aways.

As the group scorched along for the first 600 metres, Splash Of Moet bided her time on their backs, and as they approached the turn, Cahill eased her off their backs to begin his assault.

And what an assault it was! The only runner in the field to break 37 for the last 600, the only runner in the field to break 25 for the last 400, and the only runner in the field to break 13 for the last furlong.
All on a slow track!

As the race-caller bellowed, this is a smart, smart horse! – and who can possibly argue?

The win ensured the filly took her career record to 2 from 2, whilst quickly amassing earnings of close to $75,000.

Congratulations to the owners Matthew Annells, Phil Breden, Chris Counihan, Paul Graham, Alex Kauye, Chris Lester, Ash Miller, Tim Nation, David Schiavello, Mark Schiavello, Dominic Smith, Simon Wallace and David Willis.

With a little bit of luck, this girl could be seeing the above group of owners contacting local establishments for a good tailor, on their way to Melbourne's up-coming Spring Carnival.

Regards,

Daniel Borg
