New Republic has returned to winning form with a dominant win on our home track.
The son of the Riverdene Stud and former Group 1-winner Dissident resumed in late January and a mixture of bad luck and unsuitable races meant that the gelding was running well, without winning.
Back to 1500m and with stable rider Mikayla Weir on board, New Republic was able to travel sweetly off a hot speed, before finishing all over the top of his rivals to score a dominant win.
New Republic was a purchase by Mark Minervini from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2020 Melbourne Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and the Newcastle win was his fourth, with stake earnings of over $100,000.
2023 has been a breakout year for Minervini Racing, and New Republic’s win was our boutique stable’s tenth for the year
– a remarkable effort from a team that caters for a maximum of 16 horses in work!
Congratulations to his owners Peter Cawthorne, Michael Green, Wayne Grob, Ben Gunn, Rachel Isaac, Sean McCartan, Richard McKinnon, Don Meers, Mark Minervini, Kain Ottey, Corey Ottey, Craig Reid, Jacob Selfe, Ennio Tarca, Michael Worth, Darryl Wright, Shunt And Punt Syndicate (Mgr: Ben Cribb).
